Obverse: Liberty with flowing hair.

U.S. Mint coin reference
Flowing Hair half dimes are among the earliest U.S. silver coins.

Obverse: Liberty with flowing hair.
Reverse: Eagle within wreath.
The half dime was among the first federal silver denominations placed into regular production. Robert Scot’s Flowing Hair portrait and small eagle reverse connect it visually with the contemporary half dollar and dollar.
Congress authorized the early silver alloy at .8924 fine. Surviving pieces should be attributed by date, 1.35-gram standard weight, reeded edge, and the compact 16.5-millimeter format rather than by surface color alone.
