Semiquincentennial Nickel history

The 2026 Semiquincentennial nickel commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence while retaining the modern Jefferson and Monticello designs. The main visible change is the one-year dual date 1776 ~ 2026 on the obverse. The Jefferson portrait dates to 2006, while the Monticello reverse is a restored version of Felix Schlag’s original 1938 design. Unlike the dime, quarters, and half dollar, the nickel marks the anniversary primarily through its special dating rather than a completely new design.
