Obverse: Liberty head with radiate crown.
Reverse: Eagle perched with PEACE inscription.
The Peace dollar was created after World War I as a symbolic successor to the Morgan dollar and as part of the silver-dollar coinage required under the Pittman Act. Anthony de Francisci designed a youthful Liberty for the obverse and a resting eagle with the word PEACE on the reverse. The first 1921 coins were struck in high relief, but the design was lowered in 1922 to improve production. Regular issues continued through 1928, returned in 1934 and 1935, and then ended until later modern commemorative revivals of the design.
