1776–1976: Eisenhower Dollar (Dual-Dated Large-Size Bicentennial Moon/Liberty Bell Reverse) history

Dennis R. Williams designed the Bicentennial dollar reverse, placing the Liberty Bell over the Moon. It replaced the regular Apollo 11 eagle reverse on coins struck in 1975 and 1976, all bearing the dual date 1776-1976.

Large dollars were made in copper-nickel clad for circulation and proofs, and in 40% silver-clad for special collector issues. Weight, edge appearance, and mintmark separate the compositions.
