U.S. Mint coin reference
Flowing Hair half dimes are among the earliest U.S. silver coins.

Obverse: Liberty with flowing hair.
Reverse: Eagle within wreath.
Half dimes dated 1794 were delivered after the denomination entered production, while the much larger 1795 output made the second date the more available type coin. Both dates carry Robert Scot’s Flowing Hair obverse and small eagle reverse.
The legal composition was 89.24% silver and 10.76% copper. The coin’s low weight and small diameter make complete rims, central strike detail, and undamaged surfaces important when comparing examples.
