1999–2000: 50 State Quarters Program (Initial Years of Circulating Statehood Designs) history

The 50 State Quarters Program began in 1999 with five states represented each year in the order they ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. These first two years cover Delaware through New Hampshire.

John Flanagan's Washington portrait was adapted for the obverse, while each state reverse followed its own approved design process. Territories belong to the separate 2009 D.C. and U.S. Territories program.
