1946 Iowa Centennial Half Dollar
The story behind this coin
Authorized after the broad 1939 shutdown, Iowa’s centennial coin became one of only a few postwar exceptions. It pairs the state seal with Iowa City’s Old Stone Capitol. Distribution through an official state committee was orderly, and the entire issue was sold near its original offering price.
Design and symbolism
Obverse: Old Stone Capitol.
Reverse: Iowa state seal eagle.
