1901–1904: Morgan Silver Dollar (Standard 90% Silver Type) history

These dates close the Morgan dollar production run that began in 1878. The New Orleans, San Francisco, and Philadelphia issues of 1901-1904 preceded a sixteen-year pause before the design returned for one final year in 1921.

Collectors distinguish these late original-run dollars by date, mintmark, strike, and surviving luster. Several issues are much scarcer in high Mint State grades than their production totals alone suggest.
