Obverse: Liberty Head portrait by Charles E. Barber.
The Barber dime remained the circulating ten-cent design through part of 1916, when the Winged Liberty Head dime replaced it. New Orleans production ended after 1909, while Denver and San Francisco supplied later branch-mint issues.
Because the reverse has no eagle, wreath detail is a primary condition checkpoint. The 1916-D belongs to the succeeding Mercury design and should never be confused with a Barber dime of the same year.
