1916–1945: Mercury Dime (Winged Liberty Head, 90% Silver) history

Adolph A. Weinman's Winged Liberty Head dime entered production in 1916 and quickly acquired the popular Mercury nickname. Its fasces-and-olive-branch reverse joined strength and peace in a design used through 1945.

The 1916-D is the key regular issue, while the 1942/1 overdates are separate varieties. Bands across the fasces, hair detail, mintmark position, and untouched luster are central to evaluation.
