1917–1930: Standing Liberty Quarter (Type 2: Chainmail Armor, 3 Stars Under Reverse Eagle) history

The revised Standing Liberty quarter clothes Liberty in chain mail and moves three reverse stars beneath a repositioned eagle. This Type 2 layout began during 1917 and continued through the end of the series in 1930.

Dates wore quickly until the date area was recessed in 1925. Earlier and later Type 2 coins therefore share the basic design but differ in date protection, a distinction collectors should note alongside Full Head strike quality.
