1964: Kennedy Half Dollar (90% Silver Composition Type) history

The Kennedy half dollar reached production only months after President John F. Kennedy's assassination. Gilroy Roberts supplied the portrait and Frank Gasparro adapted the Presidential Seal for the reverse.

The 1964 circulation issue is the series' only regular 90% silver subtype. Proofs include the scarce Accented Hair variety, identified by specific hair and reverse diagnostics rather than by date alone.
