1804–1807: Draped Bust Quarter (Heraldic Eagle Reverse Type) revived the quarter denomination after the one-year 1796 Small Eagle issue. The Heraldic Eagle reverse appeared on quarters dated 1804–1807, pairing Robert Scot’s Draped Bust obverse with a shielded eagle derived from the Great Seal.
No quarter dollars were issued with dates from 1797 through 1803. Collectors therefore treat the 1796 and 1804–1807 designs as separate subtypes and compare date punches, star layouts, and die marriages rather than assuming continuous annual production.
