1815–1828: Capped Bust Quarter (Large Size Layout) restored quarter production in 1815 after the Draped Bust series ended in 1807. John Reich’s Capped Bust design used a relatively large planchet and a 25 C. reverse denomination.
No quarter was issued with an 1816 date, and production was intermittent during this layout. Overdates, large- and small-numeral combinations, and Browning die marriages are central to attribution before the smaller format arrived in 1831.
