1965–1998: Washington Quarter (Copper-Nickel Clad) history

The Washington quarter changed from 90% silver to copper-nickel clad in 1965 while retaining John Flanagan's familiar design. The eagle reverse continued except for the Bicentennial interruption.

No 1975-dated quarters exist because coins made for the celebration carry the dual date 1776-1976. Mintmark use, proof manufacture, and hub details changed during this long clad interval.
