1979–1981: Susan B. Anthony Dollar (Small-Size, Copper-Nickel Clad Type) history

The Susan B. Anthony dollar introduced a small-diameter dollar intended to circulate more conveniently than the Eisenhower dollar. Frank Gasparro adapted the Apollo 11 eagle reverse used on the larger coin and placed an eleven-sided border inside the rim.

Its size and color remained close to the quarter, limiting public acceptance. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco made 1979-1981 issues before regular production paused.
